Do gays run the Emmy awards?

It seems like the support of the gay community is all a prime time tv show needs to win an Emmy award (or 7). Why does it seem like gays are the reigning authority when it comes to prime time tv? They are only 10 percent of the population! Statistically, do they watch more tv than straight people? I'll bet that a show about gay vampires would do wonderful things for the turtle neck sweater market.
