How will taxing fix the damage to the environment?

I think it about the same premise as taxing sugary drinks. If people have to pay more, maybe they will drink less of it and they won't be so fat. Of course that is a silly argument but that is because our politicians think we are stupid. The tax isn't for our benefit...it is for theirs!! Money is control.
