Why do we mythologize the founding fathers?

I'm not sure that anyone besides fundie Christians do - they insist that all of our founding fathers were also xians. That's a myth. Now, we sane Americans simply admire - and rightly so - their foresight and wisdom in having created probably the most beautiful constitution ever. It's a living, breathing (that's metaphorical, xians!) testament to mankind's desire for freedom and justice and probably the best blueprint for how to implement that desire in governance.
